About the United States Dollar
The United States “dollar” (plural: dollars) is the official currency used in the country of the United States of America, as well as its territories of American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, United States Minor Outlying Islands (Baker Island, Bajo Nuevo Bank, Howland Island, Jarvis Island, Johnston Atoll, Kingman Reef, Midway Islands, Navassa Island, Palmyra Atoll, Serranilla Bank, and Wake Island). Its official currency code is “USD” and it is symbolized by “$”. The primary denominations include 1, 5, 10, 25 cent coins (sometimes represented by a cents “¢” symbol); and 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 dollar paper bank notes (1 dollar = 100 cents). In the United States, decimal numbers are denoted using a point (e.g. 1.50). The dollar has a floating exchange rate and it is currently the world’s foremost reserve currency.
